U8 MITE TRAVEL
In 2010, USA Hockey introduced the American Development Model (ADM) to ensure age-appropriate training and competition for young athletes. At the U8 (Mite) level, the ADM emphasizes fun, skill development, and high engagement through small-area games and station-based practices. Players typically enter this stage after completing Learn to Skate and/or Learn to Play Hockey programs. By focusing on skating, puck handling, and teamwork in a supportive environment, the ADM helps build a strong foundation for long-term success. Programs wishing to remain USA Hockey-sanctioned must follow these ADM guidelines, which prioritize development over early specialization.
