Parent Commitment & Code of Conduct Agreement

This Parent Commitment & Code of Conduct Agreement (“Agreement”) is entered into between the undersigned parent(s) or legal guardian(s) (“Parent”) and the East Haven Youth Hockey Association (“EHYHA”) for participation in the 2025–2026 hockey season. EHYHA provides a structured and competitive youth hockey program designed to foster the athletic, social, and personal development of each participant. The success of this program depends upon the cooperation, respect, and positive conduct of all participants, including parents and guardians.

Definition of Parent

For the purposes of this Agreement, the term “Parent” shall include any maternal, paternal, or legal guardian of the player, regardless of marital status or custody arrangement.

Commitment to Participation

The Parent understands that the program requires regular attendance at both practices and games, which may take place during evenings and weekends. The Parent acknowledges the importance of the team concept and understands that consistent participation is essential to the success of the team and the development of all players. The Parent agrees to support their child’s commitment to the team and to ensure timely attendance at all team-related activities.

Academic and Extracurricular Activities

The Parent understands that participation in school activities (such as plays, academic programs, or field trips) will not negatively impact their child’s standing in this program. The Parent further acknowledges that participation in non-school athletic programs may conflict with EHYHA activities and, if such conflicts are not resolved, may result in reduced participation or removal from the team at the discretion of EHYHA.

Playing Time and Coaching Discretion

The Parent acknowledges that all playing time and player placement decisions are made solely at the discretion of the coaching staff. The Parent agrees to respect and support the coaches’ authority and decisions.

Sportsmanship and Conduct

The Parent agrees to serve as a positive role model by demonstrating respect, courtesy, and good sportsmanship toward all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at all times. The Parent will refrain from engaging in unsportsmanlike behavior, including but not limited to: booing, taunting, use of profane or abusive language or gestures, or refusal to engage in customary post-game handshakes. The Parent will encourage their child to learn from both success and failure, and to show humility in victory and composure in defeat.

Communication Protocol

The Parent will encourage their child to first address any concerns directly with their coach in an appropriate manner. The Parent agrees not to confront or question a coach during or immediately after a game or practice. Any necessary discussion will be scheduled at a mutually agreed-upon time, no sooner than 24 hours after the event in question.

Coaching Boundaries

The Parent shall refrain from coaching their child or other players during games and practices, unless specifically invited to assist by the coaching staff.

Substance-Free Environment

The Parent agrees to support and demand an athletic environment free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol at all EHYHA events, games, and practices.

Acknowledgment and Agreement

By signing below, the Parent affirms that they have read, understand, and agree to comply with this Parent Commitment & Code of Conduct. The Parent further acknowledges that violation of any term of this Agreement may result in disciplinary action by EHYHA, including but not limited to removal from the facility, suspension of the player, or termination of participation in the program.
