USA Hockey SafeSport Quick Reference Guides & Resources
Zero Tolerance Policies
The East Haven Youth Hockey Association and USA Hockey maintain a zero-tolerance standard for abuse, misconduct, and any behavior that compromises a safe environment for participants.
This SafeSport Handbook consolidates the core policies that apply to all USA Hockey member programs, including guidance and expectations related to:
- Sexual abuse
- Physical abuse
- Emotional abuse
- Bullying, threats, and harassment
- Hazing
It also outlines key standards designed to reduce risk in common areas where misconduct may occur, including:
- Locker room conduct and supervision
- Electronic communications
- Team travel protocols
- Billeting expectations
Beyond policy requirements, the handbook provides clear information on SafeSport education and training for staff, volunteers, administrators, coaches, parents, and players—focused on recognizing concerns early and reducing opportunities for abuse. It also explains screening and background check requirements, how to report suspected abuse or misconduct (including protections against retaliation), and the procedures member programs must follow to respond to allegations appropriately. Finally, it describes how USA Hockey and member programs will monitor and oversee SafeSport compliance to support accountability and continuous improvement.
